I have a large dog who has made a path in the yard. He goes the same way every time. Is there any way to get grass to grow there short of getting rid of the dog?

What has happened is that the constant traffic has compacted the soil. Even if you reseed, the roots of the new grass won't be able to penetrate into the soil. So, you'll need to dig the soil in the area (6-8 inches deep) and mix in some compost to help loosen the soil. After leveling it, broadcast grass seed and cover over the seeds with a thin layer of compost or peat moss. Keep the area moist and the new grass will sprout in about 10 days. You will probably have to place a temporary fence to keep your pup out of the newly seeded area until the grass has become established and well rooted.
