What are the growing requirements for Barberry? Do they produce blooms? If so, what color? How about berries? If they produce berries do the birds eat them?

Barberry (Berberis), take full sun to part shade, average garden soil, and moderate water. The shrubs grow to six feet high, with an equal spread. The branches are thorny, with small leaves. Yellow-orange flowers appear in the summer and dark purple berries are produced in late summer and early fall. Birds enjoy feasting on the berries in the fall and winter months. There are many cultivars of barberry, including two with variegated leaf color. It's often used as a hedge planting to keep people from walking through an area. (The thorns are very sharp!)
