| You can try to separate the plants and put them into their own little peat pots, or you can just clip the extras off with a pair of scissors. I find that if the seed starting mix is very moist I can scoop it out of the tray with a small spoon and then carefully break it apart and separate the roots of the seedlings. Once each is free from the others they can be planted in their own little pots. If you do this, try to handle the seedlings only by the leaves. The stems are fragile and if pinched or bruised will die. It might be worth a try - you have nothing to lose if you accidentally break a few. When it is time to plant your seedlings in the ground, plant one square per hole, spacing them about 12 inches a part. They will grow large enough to fill in the gaps and if they become overcrowded you can always dig and move them. Good luck with your seedlings. |
