Weeping Cherry Leafing - Knowledgebase Question

I purchased a weeping cherry 'snow fountain' 4-23-09. When I brought it home it had beautiful blooms on it. Now, 2 weeks later the tree looks dead - barely any sign of leafing.

Does this particular specimen leaf out late? I have a Mulberry tree in the back that is usually one of the last trees to leaf out in the neighborhood. I live in the Detroit, MI area.

Thank you,
Mrs. C. Galayda

Flowering comes first, then new leaves. If you planted it while it was in bloom it may have suffered some stress and is busy getting its roots re-established. Once it does it should leaf out. If it is not planted but still in the nursery pot, the roots might be stressed from direct sunshine on the container or lack of sufficient water. I would get it into the ground as soon as possible. Either way, once your weeping cherry feels comfortable in its new home it will leaf out.
