I originally had these in an area where they received part shade during the day and somewhat protected them from the high central Florida heat. I have since moved them to full sun (as directed) and they are not doing as well. Should these roses be placed in an area where they receive partial shade during the day to protect them? |
Roses in Florida need direct sunlight for at least six hours a day. Morning sun is best because it dries the dew from the foliage. For future reference, the fewer the petals the more shade tolerant the rose is likely to be. Your Gina Lollobrigida should tolerate full sunshine so if it is not thriving it could be a root problem (poor drainage, poor nutrition, under or over watering). You didn't mention how long ago you tranplanted your roses. It will take several weeks for the roots to become established in their new home and that stress can make your rose bush look puny for a time. Heat stress can cause afternoon wilting or even sunscald on the leaves. With the above information in mind, try to determine just what the problem might be with your lovely rose. Best wishes with your garden. |
