We just removed our sod from our small front yard intending to put in pavers, ground cover and some plants. How do we rid ourselves of the grass before laying some pavers and planting?

Since you will need to rototill or dig the area and level it, then lay sand as a base for your pavers, you can simply till over the remaining grass and roots, then rake them out prior to laying the sand base. Or you can use a vegetation killer such as Round Up. You will still want to rake to remove the old grass and there will be a waiting period before you can plant in the area. Either way, you will have a clean slate for laying your pavers.
