|There's no easy answer for either of the problems. Crabgrass and quackgrass will need to be hand pulled from your asparagus bed. There are no chemicals to eradicate them that won't also harm your asparagus. However, once you pull the weeds out you can mulch between the plants and along the rows with newspapers or cardboard covered with 2-3 inches of compost or other organic matter to stop additional weeds from sprouting in the bed. Tigerlilies grow from bulbs and their stored energy will continue to send up new sprouts until the energy is depleated. Digging out the bulbs or cutting the new sprouts down at ground level on a consistent basis will starve out the bulbs. You can't allow the sprouts to develop leaves or they will transport energy back into the bulbs. There are no easy answers - except persistence. Eventually you will win out.
