I accidentally pulled my lily out while weeding. Now it has yellow leaves at the bottom and is leaning. I would have given up except that like the other lilies, it recently produced a bulb on the top, just not as vibrant or colorful. Can she be saved? How can I kill the weeds in my garden bed while still protecting what I planted? |
Lilies are pretty tough, inspite of their delicate appearance. Just give your plant some time to develop new roots and it should pull through. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Hand pulling weeds is safest around plants but once you've removed existing weeds you can use a pre emergent product to prevent weed seeds from sprouting. Preen is one brand, but there are many safe to use in flower gardens. They contain corn gluten meal which not only suppresses seed germination but also supplies a trace amount of nitrogen, which is good for your plants. Good luck with your garden! |
