Vines are perfect for hiding a wall, either planted above to cascade down or planted at the base to scurry up the wall. Some of the best candidates include Ipomoea pes-caprae (beach morning glory), Ipomoea triloba (Aiea morning glory), Jacquemontia ovalifolia subsp. Sandwicensis (pa?u-o-hi?iaka), Jasminum laurifolium forma nitidum (angel wing jasmine), Jasminum multiflorum (star jasmine), Jasminum sambac (pikake), Lonicera japonica (Japanese honeysuckle), Macfadyena unguis-cati (cat?s claw creeper), Mandevilla x amabilis ?Alice Dupont? (mandevilla), Mansoa hymenaea (garlic vine), Marsdenia floribunda (stephanotis), Monstera spp. (monstera), Mucuna novoguineensis (red jade), Myoporum parvifolium (spreading myoporum). Or, you might consider growing an evergreen shrub to hide the wall. Camellia is a nice choice, but hibiscus or nearly any tall shrub will soften the look of the concrete wall. Enjoy your garden! |
