|How do I grow black beans?|
|Most, if not all, black beans are bush beans, so you do not need to trellis the plants. Plant the seeds 1" deep in heavy soils and 1-1/2" deep in light soils. Space the seeds about 3-4" apart in rows 18-30" apart. If the package does not indicate otherwise, assume the beans need 85-115 days to maturity. The beans are ready for harvest when the pods are dry and papery and the foliage has yellowed and withered. You can pull up the whole plant and dry them in a cool, dry place.
In some areas, conditions are too humid to permit complete drying, but they are worth a try. Good luck.
