How deep do rhododendrons roots go? We would like to plant one near our septic system. Thanks.

For a mature rhododendron, expect the roots to be concentrated in the top 12 inches of soil and radiate out past the branch tips. A dwarf rhododendron or a small camellia, which has an upright rather than a broad growth habit may work for you.
