|Some Japanese maples cannot tolerate afternoon sunshine and if they experience hot afternoon sun, the leaves will turn crispy brown and the colors will fade. I'd dig and move it to a place with morning sun and filtered afternoon shade. I think you'll see a big difference in its performance.
