| Most perennials go through a little transplant shock when moved from the containers to the ground, especially if they are planted in hot sunshine. For best results, amend the planting bed with organic matter such as compost, then dig holes and carefully set your perennials into the holes. Fill in around the roots and then water each plant well to help settle the soil. If the weather is hot, shield the plants from afternoon sunshine for about a week.
