Splitting is usually a sign of over-watering so you may want to reduce the amount of water you apply. Fig trees have shallow roots, which makes them susceptible to drought damage, but also means that you can simply flood the soil twice a week to provide adequate moisture. You can also place a 2-3 inch layer of organic mulch over the root system to help keep it cool and slow evaporation. I'd reduce the watering and while it will take some time for you to see results, the leaves should stop yellowing and the fruits should stop splitting. Good luck with your fig tree.
