This is my first attemt at growing a blackberry bush and yesterday I noticed half the plant has little brown spots on the leaves. Looks like freckels. Is this a bug or something else?

Little brown spots can indicate a fungal disease, sunburn if water droplets are on the leaves in hot sunshine, or drift/overspray from chemicals used in the garden. If only a few leaves are affected, pull or cut them off the plant - just in case it is a disease. If all the leaves are affected you might use a garden fungicide to kill the fungus. Hope this helps you diagnose the problem. Best wishes with your blackberry.
