I sprayed WeedBGon in my lawn and rather large floer bed - being careful not to hit my astilbe, bleeding heart, Rocket, spirea, and woke up this morning and they are all looking very bad--drooping and very pale - and it didn't do much to the weeds. Did I kill my wonderful annuals? Did not seem to affect my ferns or iris. How can I fix it? I feel terrible. Took me 7 years to to get nice garden HELP |
Ortho Weed B Gon should not be used for controlling weeds in vegetable gardens, flower beds, or around shrubs or ornamental plants. It is safe for use on lawns - except for floratam (a variety of St. Augustine grass). If you spot treated the weeds in your flower beds the flowers should be okay, providing they were not touched by overspray. If it drifted onto them, it will probably kill parts of the plants. I think only time will tell just how affected your flowering plants might be. The herbicide will degrade in the presence of sunlight and fresh air so it will eventually go away. Until then, you'll just have to wait and see. Wish I had a remedy for the problem but once the chemical is on the plants, there's nothing you can do to counteract it. I guess the bottom line here is to carefully read and follow the product label directions. I know that's not much comfort to you at this point. Best wishes with your garden! |
