I have lavendar that have done well for 3 years here in NH. They face South and have good drainage. This year i am experiencing lots of dead branches in the middle of the plants, is this normal as they grow bigger or are they just not doing well. We planted them after visiting California and hoped i could recreate the look. Thanks

Lavender does tend to get woody unless they are pruned back annually. Once the stem becomes bare it rarely leafs out again, but you can try pruning them all over to encourage new growth. Even if new growth doesn't emerge from the woody stems, the new growth that develops on the tips of the stems should hide the centers of the plants. Best wishes with your lavender.
