I have a Jatrophica plant that I bought from Home Depot 2 years ago. It is stalky. How do you prune it? I'm afraid that I'll kill the plant if I prune it too low, but I would like it to be bushier.

Jatropha blooms on new growth so you can prune it back at any time of the year. When you prune expect two new branches to grow just beneath the pruning cut. Either cut back individual branches at random lengths or use garden shears or a hedge trimmer to reduce the size of the plant by about one third. New growth will fill in bare spots and annual pruning will result in a thick, dense, flowering shrub. Enjoy!
