The area of our lawn where Katrina debris, including drywall, was dumped is not doing well despite fertilizing. Does drywall debris have an ingredient that we can overcome with a special treatment? The remainder of the yard is doing very well.

A study at the Ohio State University shows that drywall is a good source of the nutrients calcium, magnesium and sulfur. However, too much of a good thing can be worse than not enough. I'd be inclined to take a few soil samples and have them analyzed, just to be sure. Mississippi State University offers this service for a fee.
