We started watering every other day now we water everyday at 6am. My husband put fertilizer cause we had lots of crab grass/weeds growing in it. Now that we killed them the grass is in patches dark brown and light brown...Did we kill it?? I don't know what else to do??

Watering every day is not healthy for your lawn. It can encourage shallow rooting and make the lawn tend to burn out in the summertime. And, it can also suffocate the roots of your lawn when soils remain too wet. Instead, you should water deeply only twice a week in the summer months. Some weed killers are not safe to use on all types of lawns so the application you made may have killed off some of the grass. There are two types of turfgrasses - warm season and cool season. Cool season grasses die out when the weather gets warm; warm season grasses green up when the weather is warm but die down when the weather gets cool, just about the time cool season grasses start to green up. So, the browning turf can be the result of the weather getting warmer or the result of the weed killer you used. In either case, you can help your lawn green up by putting it on a regular feeding, mowing and fertilizing schedule.

Water deeply twice each week by allowing the sprinklers to run from 15=30 minutes at a time (if runoff occurs, turn off the water, wait 15 minutes for it to soak in and then turn on the water for another 15 minutes). Do this every 2-4 days, depending upon weather. Mow as often as necessary to keep the height at about 2". Feed in April, June, September and late November.

Your lawn should recover later this month and begin to look lush and green. Enjoy!
