Red buckeyes have a toxic sap that deters pests from munching the star-shaped, deeply veined, reddish leaves so I'm stumped! Try to catch the culprits in action. If you find any, collect a few in a plastic baggie and take them to your cooperative extension office or well staffed nursery for identification. Once you know what they are, you can plan your control strategy. Good luck with your buckeye tree!
