|Sounds like you are doing all you can do for this season. Just keep watering and fertilizing. You might also spread several inches of compost over the bare soil between the plants. As the compost decomposes it will provide nutrients to the roots of your plants. At the end of the season dig the compost into the soil and add a fresh layer. Next spring dig the compost into the soil again before planting. If you repeat this process each year you will build rich garden loam and have a terrific vegetable garden. It just takes time to improve the soil but once you do, you'll have a bountiful harvest. Best wishes with your garden.
