Rhododenrons should be pruned back as soon as the flowers are spent. You can safely prune off about one third of the plant by trimming it all over, or you can selectively prune only some of the branches back, to force new growth toward the center of the plant. Your approach will depend upon how much or how little you want to remove. Rhodies spend the summer months developing flower buds for next year's floral display so prune as soon as practical to give your rhodie adequate time for new growth. Enjoy!
