What is the best method of thinning Lily of the nile?

Dig and divide your lily of the nile in the same way you would daylilies. Dig the entire clump, massage the dirt off to see exactly where the root areas are, and then pull the plants apart. Each division should have roots and leaves attached. If the root mass is solid and you cannot easily separate the plants, just lay the plant on its side and cut into it with a shovel, dividing the mass into as many pieces as you want. Again, each division should have both roots and tops. Replant as soon as possible and water the divisions in well.
