I would like to place a slate path on a shaded slope in my backyard and plant either a moss or low growing ornamental grass in between the stones. It is a fairly large area. Is there a mondo grass that is shorter or some other plant that would work well in that area? It is also a dryer area. I have bermuda grass in other areas of the backyard, have tried
zyosia grass under the trees.

Corsican mint or pearlwort might be just the right plant for between your pavers. It is ground hugging, produces seasonal flowers, remains evergreen and tolerates shade. I think the leaf size and color would be just right between your slate pavers and it takes foot traffic without too much harm. Hope it works for you!
