Everyone has their favorite tomatoes. I have conducted several taste test trials in the south, and among the top tomatoes are the Burpee varieties 'Better Boy' and 'Early Girl'. For a really sweet cherry type that produces better in the heat than the large fruited types, try 'Super Sweet 100'.

Another thing we learned from our taste tests is that ripeness is a big part of flavor. The best tasting variety if picked less that fully ripe will not compete with a fair to good variety that is allowed to fully ripen. You might want to get a copy of Burpee's Heirloom catalog--this lists lots of the "old-time" varieties and you might find just the one! Call 800-888-1447 to get a catalog.

Good luck with your garden.
