| I have an area that recieves less than 10% sun. I have planted grass (shade type) twice, following all prep and watering rules. Seed was for shade & purchased from knowledgable garden center.Only about 15-20% of area wont grow properly.all factors are same for this area. total area size 15'x25'. what about ground cover or shade recommendation. |
| Grass does not grow well in shade. However, fescue grass is sometimes sold as a ?shade? grass because it performs best out of all other varieties of grass available, but it?s still not a solution for very shady areas. Sod can be established in the shade if managed properly, but sod in shade will naturally get thinner and thinner over the years. Overseeding will need to be done on a regular basis to keep the grass looking nice. Watering sod in the shade will be different than watering sod in direct sunlight. A shady environment has less air movement and less sunlight. Both of these factors result in less water evaporation and therefore shady areas need less water. A regular feeding schedule will keep your sod growing vigorously, and help it remain green for the longest period possible. In the areas that refuse to grow grass - soil compaction might be a factor. Try aerating the lawn and spreading a little compost over the top. The compost will work its way into the soil to provide more root room and better drainage. Best wishes with your lawn. |
