My crape myrtle tree is not flowering, and the truck of the tree is sheding;is that normal? what can i do to help it flower? |
Many crape myrtles do shed, and part of their attractiveness is when they display patches of gray, white, and rust to cinnamon brown underbark. This is perfectly normal. Crape myrtles flower on new growth of the season so pruning at the wrong time will stop them from blooming. It's best to wait until after their blooming period to prune. When you do they will put out new growth and you'll often get a second flush of blooms later in the summer. You can try pruning yours back now and see if it doesn't bloom for you a little later. I think it will. Enjoy! |
