I have a fairly large yard and somehting is literally rolling the sod back and leaving bare spots in the yard. It is almost as if a large snow shovel is pushing the sod back to the edge of the area. Rumor has it that there are fox around here.Could this be the culprit?

Possibly fox but more likely raccoons. They love to find grubs beneath the lawn and will literally roll the lawn up as the root around for ground dwelling insects and grubs. There's really nothing you can do to stop them but you can roll the lawn back, stomp it down so the roots make good contact with the soil, and then water it down well. Even if your soil has no grubs, raccoons will investigate - just in case. Luckily this is usually just a seasonal thing. When the raccoons find other things to eat, they will leave your sod alone. Best wishes with your landscape.
