Transplant stress can make a persimmon tree lose its leaves so make sure the branches are dead and not just bare before you decide to take any action. Try scraping the bark from the bare branches. If you find green tissue beneath the bark, the branch is still alive; if the tissue is brown, that part of the branch is dead. Keep exploring down the branch until you find live wood. If none, prune it off. Repeat with each seemingly dead branch. Then wait to see if new growth appears. If you don't see anything within a month or two, it will be best to replace the tree. Fall is an excellent time to plant landscape trees and shrubs. That's when weather is cooler and rainfall more abundant, both of which will lessen transplant shock and help the roots to become established in your landscape. Best wishes with your tree!
