I have a large basil plant that seems to have bee attached, leaves are chewed and brown. Does this sound like a soil or an insect problem? Thanks

Browning leaves can indicate sunscald or a water stress problem but chewed leaves are probably a result of insect feeding. Since you are going to consume the leaves, no chemical pesticides should be used on the plants. Instead, why not pinch off the affected leaves to remove them from the garden and also to encourage healthy new growth. Good luck with your basil!
