There are two schools of thought on watering. Some gardeners water in the early morning so the plants will be ready to face the bright sunshine and long summer day. Early morning watering gives ample time for the leaves to dry out before night fall, so as not to encourge diseases. Other gardeners water late in the afternoon, to refresh the plants after a long, hot day in the summer sun. Either practice is acceptable. It's best not to water mid-day, when evaporation is more likely to occur, or in the dark, when the leaves of the plants will stay wet for a number of hours, promoting the development of fungal diseases. Choose the time that's most convenient to you, and water thoroughly so the entire root zone of the plants get wet.
