|We just planted 4 double knock out and 4 carpet roses. How much do they need to be watered (gallons per week for example) and what is a good fertalizing schedule to follow? Remember we live in the Nebraska Heat and humidity.|
|Your Knock Out and carpet roses are reasonably drought tolerant and should be watered deeply once every 7-10 days in clayey soils, once every 4-7 days in sandy soils. You can help clay soil drain well and/or you can help sandy soils retain more moisture with the addition of organic matter prior to planting your roses. How often to water depends upon your soil type and also how you supply the water. In general, your plants will need one inch of water per week. Here's a publication from the University of Nebraska with some watering guidelines you can follow, depending upon your method of watering; http://lancaster.unl.edu/hort/...
Your roses need feeding only once per season. Springtime, as new grow is appearing is a good time to feed. Use a general purpose 10-10-10 in amounts as listed on the product label. Best wishes with your new roses!
