Cherry trees are susceptible to a disease called brown rot which causes the leave to suddenly turn brown. But, drought stress and overwatering can cause the same symptoms. I really cannot diagnose the problem without seeing it so why not clip off a symptomatic branch and take it or send it to your local cooperative extension office? Helpful folks there can indentify the problem and suggest control remedies. Contact Utah State University, Utah County Administration Building, 100 East Center, Room L600, Provo, UT 84606 phone 801-851-8460. Best wishes with your tree.
