when orchids lose their bloom where is the correct location to cut it back ?

Most orchids will rebloom if you cut the flower spike down a bit. Cut just above the highest node that didn't have a flower. If in doubt, leave the whole spike alone and it will start to develop a new flower. When that happens you can trim away the excess (older part) of the flower spike.
