Thank you for this helpful service. What can I do to save potted Lily bulbs for next year now that the plants are done flowering. The green part of the Lily is still green and strong but, the Lily has stopped flowering. Also,.. I would like to save my potted strawberries vines. Again,.. thank you for this service. |
Bulbs need a resting period so start by cutting away the spent flower stalk but leaving the foliage alone. It will begin to ripen and turn yellow. When this happens stop watering and wait for the foliage to die down. Remove the old foliage and store the bulb in a cool place until fall, then replant and begin to water again. It should sprout new foliage and a new flower stalk. Strawberries go dormant in the winter months, too, so as the foliage begins to die down withhold water. When the tops are completely dead, dig the crowns and store them in barely moist peat moss or potting soil in a cool, dark place. Replant in the spring. Enjoy your plants! |
