my neighbor's elm trees are infested with some kind of bugs and the leaves are falling off and when the winds (chicago) pick up I get all of them and it seems every one of my flowers that get cover in these leaves are dying why? the amount of leaves that i cleaned up in 4 days would have filled 2-30gallon cans. |
Elm leaf beetles are the most common pest of elm leaves, but they are usually host specific and should not harm the leaves of your flowers. So, it might be a good idea to collect a few of the pests and take them to your cooperative extension office or well staff nursery to have them identified. Once you know what they are you can determine whether or not they are the ones bothering your flowers. Helpful folks at the extension office can suggest control measures based upon the identification of the insects. Best wishes with your garden! |
