|We have a front of house court yard. It faces SW so it gets a lot of sun. We have overgrown azaleas in there now so it needs redoing. We are getting older so we need very low maintainance. Any advice you can give would be appreciated as it is important to us because it is the first impression you get when you come to our home. It is about 24 ft. by 24 ft.|
|I think I would concentrate on drought tolerant shrubs and perennials. These are typically low maintenance plants and include ornamental grasses, Lantana spp. - Lantana, Limonium spp. - Statice, Nicotiana alata - Flowering tobacco, Pelargonum x hortatum - Geranium, Petunia x hybrida - Petunia, Portulaca grandiflora - Moss rose, |
Rudbeckia hirta - Gloriosa daisy, Senecio cineraria - Dusty miller, Tagetes spp. - Marigolds, and Verbena spp. - Verbena. Aster spp. - Asters, Baptisia australis - False blue indigo, Centauria montana - Perennial bachelor?s button, Coreopsis spp.- Coreopsis, Dianthus spp. - Pinks, Echinacea purpurea - Purple cone flower, Echinops ritro - Globe thistle, Erygium spp. - Sea holly, Euphorbia sp. - Spurge, Gaillardia spp. - Blanket flower, Geranium macchrorhizum - Bigroot geranium, Helleborus sp. ? Hellebores, Hemerocallis spp. ? Daylily, and Hibiscus moscheutos - Common mallow. In addition to these annuals and perennials, you might plant junipers, yew, dwarf spruce, or mock orange. Enjoy your new garden!
