The contents of the compressed bales of peat moss called "milled sphagnum" is a natural product of organic matter consisting of the partly decomposed remains of sphagnum moss. As such, it is a fibrous material with good moisture holding ablility; it also has a slightly acid pH and a very high C/N ratio.
