|In east coast central FL, when and how should orande and grapefruit trees be prunned.
|The best time for severe pruning is after the danger of freezing temperatures is past and just before the spring growth flush. At this time new foliage will grow rapidly to cover exposed limbs. Bark that has grown in the shade is easily sunburned
and may be damaged. Minor pruning can be done now if you only want to remove a few branches; overall trimming after you've harvested the fruit and before it flowers. I keep my citrus trees on the small side by pruning it back by about 6" with a hedge trimmer every December. Best wishes with your citrus trees.
