|Hi. I am having some trouble with some insects in my vegetable garden and I want to spray some organic insecticide to kill larvas and the bugs that eat leaves. The squash borers are my big problem at this time, but i also have some other stuff growing that i know will need protection from the larvas and bugs. I also would like some adivice about row covers. Thank you, |
|Neem oil is considered organic by most gardeners because it is made from plant oils. Bioneem by Safer and Bon-Neem by Bonide are both registered for use in vegetable and flower gardens. Another control to consider is Rotenone. It occurs naturally in the roots and stems of several plants such as the jicama vine plant and is used by organic gardeners. Be sure to follow label directions for any product you use in your vegetable garden. |
Floating row covers are a good way to keep insects from flying onto and attacking your plants. They must be installed immediately after planting your seeds or seedlings to be completely effective. The only drawback is that row covers will keep pollinating insects from visiting the flowers of your plants so you'll need to remove the floating row cover material when your plants begin to flower so they can set fruit. Hope this answers your questions!
