|Hi - we love the look of ornamental grasses....we live in Dutchess County, NY where we can get some harsh winters. Any suggestions for hardy ornamental grasses that would grow high enough to serve as a pseudo-barrier for around our patio? We like privacy but don't want fences. Grasses seem much more serene. Thanks|
|Some of the hardiest ornamental grasses include:
Broomsedge (Andropogon virginicus) Carex (short, grass-like plant), Fountain Grass (Pennisetum alopecuriodes) Small grass with foxtail flowers; the maroon one is an annual and not hardy. Maiden grass) (Miscanthus sinensis) All cultivars excellent: 'Gracillimus' has fine texture to four feet; 'Zebrinus' has yellow stripes across the leaf blades; 'Variegata' holds up well in gardens, River Oats
(Chasmanthium latifolium), and Variegated Ribbon Grass (Phalaris arundinacea).
Best wishes with your new plants!
