Miscanthus sinesis gracillimus, or Maiden grass, does produce viable seeds and the seeds can sprout but they typically do not cause problems in lawns because if they sprout they are generally mowed down often enough that they will eventually die out. You can't really separate the turf and the maiden grass far enough away from one another to prevent this - the seeds can be carried on the wind or dispersed by birds. The way to stop this from happening is to cut off the seed heads before the seeds ripen.
