| I just planted two large crape myrtle's in central Oklahoma. I followed the instructions but both appear to wilt after 1 week. How can I make sure they are not getting enough water versus over watering? Will over watering cause the wilting as well? |
| Think your crape myrtles are showing signs of transplant stress. As soon as the roots become established in their new homes they should perk up. Until then, expect some wilting and even some dying and dropping leaves. When you see new growth you'll know the roots have adjusted and everything is just fine. To water your new trees, make a watering well or watering basin beneath each by mounding up a few inches of soil all around in a circle, about 12" away from the trunk. Fill this basin with water, allow it to drain, then fill it a second time. Watering in this way concentrates the moisture over the root mass and allows it to trickle down and wet the entire root system. Do this once a week and your trees should be just fine. |
