|I have a shrub that looks like Crape Myrtle in my front yard. It gets plenty sunshine but is not blooming. What is the problem? What kind of fertilizer should I use for this plant? My neighbor also has the same shrub and it is not blooming also. The bark of the tree is peeling off and it has some grey coating on the branches. Is this some type of fungus?|
Thank you very much.
|Crape myrtles typically have flaking bark so that's of no concern. Sometimes lichen grows on the branches but it doesn't hurt the bark or the branches so it's nothing to be worried about. Crape myrtles develop flowers on new growth. Pruning your shrubs back in the spring, just as new growth begins should prompt some flowers. If not, the plants may need a little fertilizer to promote flowers. Try feeding your crape myrtles with a time releas 5-10-10 each spring. I think that will make a difference. Hope so!|
