I have 3 pigmy date palms that I planted as babys 1 yr ago. I've already transferred them into a #16 pot. Now they are gigantic and it appears as though the roots are growing upward back out of the pot. What is my next step. Do I go to a larger pot or put them in the ground.

I'm afraid you'll have to keep repotting in larger and larger pots as the plants grow. Have you considered planting in half-whiskey or half-wine barrels? They'll probably have enough root room for a few years if you plant them in these overly large containers. The alternative is to plant them in the ground. Enjoy your palms.
