Planted red plum tree this year leaves have holes in them.What caused it?

Both disease pathogens and insect feeding can cause small holes in plum leaves so until we figure out the cause, there's really no control measures to recommend. Early spring insects can swoop down, eat their fill and then leave the area so even though you see the signs of their presence, they are no longer there and as a result, no control measures. Inspect the leaves of your trees periodically to see if you can catch the culprits in action. Good luck with your tree!
