I recently cleaned off a huge hill from weeds/pine needles. The pines have been cut down. Our soil isn't the best and the hill gets full sun and we are in zone 6. Do I need to work in top soil before planting grass seed or is turning/working the soil sufficient before I fertilize and then seed?

I know it sounds like a lot of work but if you can spread some organic matter over the soil and dig it in, then level the area and sow your grass seeds, the grass will get off to a better start. The organic matter will help hold moisture, which is important when getting hgrass established. A concern is that if there is a more than just a gentle slope to your hill, mowing your grass might be really difficult. A ground cover might be a better option. Best wishes with your project!
