I have a neighbor who is just starting her first garden. However, her neighbors next door have several cats that keep digging up her plants. Is there a natural repellant that she can put down to discourage them. Needs to be natural because she has a 2 year old son. |
The easiest way to keep cats from digging in the soil is to put a barrier down. Try either crumpled chicken wire, or a thick mulch on the bare soil. Use a woven weed barrier type material or large cedar bark chips between plants. You can also drive stakes around the perimeter of the garden and string nylon fishing line criss-cross fashion from stake to stake. Keep the line about 6 inches off the top of the soil and make sure it crosses at least every 12 inches. Cats won't have room to walk or dig and will find a more convenient place to go. |
