A thick, healthy lawn will crowd out most weeds so mowing, watering and fertilizing regularly should keep your lawn in tip-top shape. You can feed with a 3-1-2 ratio of NPK. The usual schedule is April, June, September and late November. I find that the garden centers usually have the right product on sale at the right application time. You'll want to use a winterizer type lawn food in late November which is lower in nitrogen but higher in phosphorous and potassium and will help the roots remain strong and healthy during the winter months. You can apply a corn gluten meal pre emergence product in about March to keep weed seeds from germinating as the weather warms next spring. Just check the sales and you're sure to remain on schedule with feeding and weed control of your turf. Best wishes with your lawn.
